Coffee Conversations…

Daily writing prompt
Is a little chaos actually good for us?

Do you ever feel like life is trying to convince us that everything should be perfectly organised?

Colour-coded calendars, perfect morning routines, minimalist homes with no drawer full of mysterious cables…

Social media makes it seem as though successful people wake up at 5 am, meditate for twenty minutes, drink a green smoothie, answer emails, complete a workout and still have perfectly folded towers.

Meanwhile, I celebrate because I found matching socks in the morning, in my wardrobe. And honestly? I think that’s worth celebrating.

I’ve started wondering whether we’ve become a little obsessed with the idea of having everything under control. Because life doesn’t seem particularly interested in staying organised. Plans just change. The coffee will spill. Dogs decide your freshly folded laundry is actually the perfect place for a nap. You buy vegetables with the best of intentions…and a week later, they’re quietly judging you from the bottom drawer of the fridge.

Life happens, and maybe, that’s not a flaw. Maybe it’s proof that we’re actually living it. Some of my favourite memories have come from things not going according to plan.

Getting caught in unexpected rain. Taking the wrong road and ending up in a beautiful neighbourhood. Burning dinner and ordering a pizza instead. None of those moments were organised. None of them were on the schedule.

And yet, somehow, they are the stories we keep telling.

So, I am beginning to think that a little chaos leaves room for surprise. It reminds us that life isn’t a checklist. It’s an experience. That doesn’t mean we should embrace complete disorder. I do like to know where my keys are. Or I enjoy opening my cupboard to find my favourite mug exactly where I left it.

But perfection isn’t the goal. Balance is. A home that’s lived in, a diary with plans…and enough empty space for unexpected adventures. A tidy desk with one messy notebooks that full of ideas. Maybe a little chaos isn’t something we should try to eliminate. Maybe it’s where life quietly sneaks in.

After all… if everything always went according to plan, what would we laugh about over a cup of coffee?
