Coffee, rain and a chat about a book.

Hello there!!! I am sending some warm greetings from a rainy part of Germany. Summer might be here, but who says that rain will not happen? To be honest, it was not predicted for this hour. I will not complain. Most times, a ”summer” rain, as I like to call it, brings a nice breeze and I am happy to let that in by throwing all the windows wide open around the house.

I finally managed to organize my kitchen and put things in the right places. I feel like I need to tick one task from the list or put that up as an achievement. What do you think? Oh well…. Let’s grab a cup of coffee (if you don’t have one, go ahead and make one), mine is with a caramel flavour a bit of milk. And let’s talk about this favorite book from my childhood.

How often did you read? And when did you start reading? I was raised with books. They were my absolute favorite past time as a child, even when I could not read but look at the pictures while someone else was doing the reading for me. However, I did enjoy reading alone the most when I was finally capable of doing so. Even to this day, I love spending some time alone with a good book and, fun fact, I love reading out loud to myself. To begin with, it does not make me sleepy.

But which was my favorite book from childhood? This was a question I spent some time pondering on. I could list many books here. From my early childhood to the later years of my childhood. But we have been tasked to answer with one. Singular. Book. So let’s talk about it.

The Thief Lord. By Cornelia Funke. Cornelia Funke is an amazing writer. I have read some more stories from her, but the most favorite was the Thief Lord. There are many times when I have considered picking it up again and yet I do not. The main problem now is that I own the book in Greek and I would like to read it in its original language. So… Remind me to order it!

I will not go tell you the plot. That is something one can look up for themselves or go ahead and watch the movie that was filmed some whatever years ago to get the hang of it. I will tell you this, though.

The Thief Lord was one of the first books that allowed me to ”travel”. There were other books that did that before it. And my imagination would go wild with creating pictures and characters and they way they looked thanks to the descriptions written by the author in some paragraphs. But this one… The book has a bit of a magic aspect in it and together with the beautiful city of Venice, it made it fall in love with a city I had never been. I still haven’t visited, even though it is in my list!

In all honesty, The Thief Lord is a book I would definitely recommend to all readers and it’s a book for both children and adults. Just try it!
