The place I call Home.

Königsdorf…. Translating to King’s Village. It is a village, to my eyes. But the King is missing. I wonder if there was ever a king here…. Maybe after this, I will be doing a little research to find out!

So…. the King’s village is the town I call home since 2008, that is the year when my parents decided to move to Germany. Königsdorf, in my case, is located a few miles outside Cologne, in North Rhine Westfalia region of Germany. It has quite a bit of population, but when someone visits, you will not know. The main street that crosses the town from one side to the other is the one you need to know. You will find only a couple of shops here and there, a couple of churches, a postoffice, gas stations and maybe one or two good spots to grab a bite or a drink. But the question is, do I like it here?

The answer is Yes. I might not be a big of fan of Germany and living in this country, but i will admit to its beauty and the good areas one can settle down. Königsdorf is one of the calmest towns I have seen. My neighborhood, being a relatively new one, is more of a family place and for quite a while in the past, kids were running up and down every weekened while enjoying the good, or kind, weather. Most have grown up now, of course, and that is alright. They are still here, they can still be ”loud”. But that is not all….

This part of the town allows a lot of calming walks, if one is up for that. It has little quaint blocks of houses, some quite old. There are some nice fields a bit down the way with a clear skyline of Cologne, especially on clear days or nights. Nature is all around us and quite wild. During Covid times, I could say that my family was one of the lucky ones. With two dogs in the family, we could still escape for a little while and take a walk down the roads, catching up on some fresh air and not being locked in all the time.

One another note, Königsdorf is so close to little places such as farms and parks that offer a lot of fun days with festivals relating to the different seasons. They are easy to visit on the weekend and have an adventure!

Lastly, I do love this place because I have some good memories from the past years. I came here with my family and my grandfather. For a good while, we enjoyed it being all together and making new memories in a new place. It was difficult, but also enjoyble. Now, as a married woman, with a household of my own, I am making new memories with my husband and my parents.
