Self Care and all that.

Daily writing prompt
How do you practice self-care?

Let’s start with defining what self care is. Self care is a noun and it means ”the practice of taking actions to preserve or improve one’s own health”. In simple words, self care is all about taking the time to do things that help you live well and improve your physical health and mental health. This helps you manage stress, increase your energy and lower the risk of illness. One can either focus on big acts of self care or small ones that can have an impact in their lives.

Of course there are many ways one can practise self care and unwind. Any sort of hobby can be considered to be an act of self care. But how do I practice self care myself?

  • By reading. Many times, I find myself seeking the company of a good book for a little while. The only way I can read is when everything is quiet, otherwise I cannot focus on the words. So, on a daily basis, reading happens either after work or before bed if I am not too sleepy. Sometimes even in the morning, when everyone else is sleeping.
  • By taking a long bath and care of my self. Now, it’s been a minute since the last time I had a long bath with bubbles, candles, movies and the like. Maybe I should get back to that. But, I must admit, that whenever I caught the opportunity and filled the bathtub with my favorite bubbles, I discovered that it helped me relax and unwind, enjoy the warm water and feel far more energized afterwards.
  • Writing is the last act of self care for me. Whether it is here or on a notebook, I’ve always loved putting my thoughts down in words to let it all go…

How do you practise self care? Let me know!!
